Best ESP32-C5 Wardriving Board for Flipper Zero (2026): Scout Lite vs Apex 5, JCMK, Rabbit-Labs & Double Barrel - PINGEQUA

Scout Lite vs Apex 5 vs JCMK: ESP32-C5 Wardriving Board Differences

Reference: Flipper Zero Wardriving Hardware & Firmware: SigRoam, Biscuit, Marauder & C5 Boards.

ESP32-C5 boards share the same native 2.4/5 GHz Wi-Fi capability, but the surrounding hardware and firmware paths differ: GPS source, storage, UART routing, control interface, and hardware revision determine the wardriving workflow. This page compares those implementation differences rather than ranking products.

Quick answer The main categories are different rather than directly interchangeable: Scout Lite is a Flipper-first integrated wardriving board; JCMK's C5 Wardriver is a standalone ESP32-C5 wardriving device; JCMK's Marauder C5 Adapter is a Flipper adapter; Apex 5 is a multi-radio Flipper board; Biscuit is a phone-first platform. Apex 5 V1/Batch 1 and V2/Batch 2 have different Marauder WarDrive behavior.

ESP32-C5 only reached makers in 2024, and the ESP32 Marauder app that most of these boards run is still catching up — direct-to-WiGLE and WDGWars upload only landed in v1.14.0 (Jul 22, 2026), on top of older, still-lingering bugs like GPS fixes silently dropping after a soft reset (issue #338) and memory climbing to 95% mid-scan before a single AP shows up (issue #1087). None of that is specific to one board — it's the software layer every C5 board here runs on top of. What actually separates them is the hardware underneath: whether GPS and SD are built in and tested, or something the vendor is still sorting out.

What to actually check before buying a C5 wardriving board

ESP32-C5 is Espressif's first RISC-V chip with real dual-band 2.4 GHz + 5 GHz Wi-Fi 6 radio hardware, released 2024 (Espressif product page). Every earlier ESP32 variant — the classic ESP32, S2, S3, C3, C6 — is 2.4 GHz only at the chip level, so a board built on any of those simply cannot do 5 GHz wardriving no matter what firmware runs on it. That's the baseline. Beyond "is it actually a C5," five things separate a board that works out of the box from one that turns into a support ticket:

  • Real C5 silicon, not a relabeled 2.4 GHz-only board. Confirm the listing names ESP32-C5 specifically, not a generic "Marauder board" — older Marauder boards on S3/C3 hardware can run the same app but have no 5 GHz radio to switch to.
  • WarDrive is actually enabled on the batch you're buying, not just printed on the box. Apex 5's first batch shipped without it — see below — and the fix landed on a later batch, not a firmware update you can pull yourself.
  • GPS and microSD are built in, not something you have to wire up yourself. Hardwired GPS removes a whole class of pin-mapping and cold-boot mistakes, and Marauder's own wiki notes GPS needs open sky and roughly 30 seconds to 2 minutes to get a fix even when wired correctly.
  • Plug-and-play vs DIY. Does it arrive flashed and ready, or do you need to solder, wire a GPS module, and flash Marauder yourself?
  • Batch limits and stock status. Several of these boards are limited drops — they sell out, get relisted, or jump in price between batches, so "in stock today" and "in stock when you click the link" aren't the same thing.

Entity rule: hardware platforms and firmware are separate entities. Scout Lite and Apex 5 are hardware; SigRoam, ESP32 Marauder, GhostESP and Biscuit firmware are software.

Board-by-board

JCMK: Marauder C5 Adapter vs C5 Wardriver

These are separate hardware categories. The Marauder C5 Adapter mounts to Flipper Zero and provides onboard GPS and microSD around a separately supplied ESP32-C5-DevKitC-1 running Marauder. The C5 Wardriver is a standalone ESP32-C5 wardriving platform with 2.4/5 GHz Wi-Fi, BLE, GPS, SD logging and WiGLE-oriented firmware. They should not be represented as one product.

Apex 5

Apex 5 combines ESP32-C5, dual Sub-GHz radios, nRF24, GPS and microSD on one Flipper board. The vendor's current GitHub manual explicitly separates the revisions: V1/Batch 1 does not support Marauder WarDrive; V2/Batch 2 changes the GPIO allocation so the ESP32-C5 and GPS can operate simultaneously and WarDrive can function correctly. Any current comparison should therefore identify the revision instead of making one statement about all Apex 5 units.

Rabbit-Labs C5 platforms

The Rabbit-Labs C5 multi-board documented in 2026 combines ESP32-C5, CC1101, integrated GPS, microSD and USB-C around a Flipper/Marauder workflow. Rabbit-Labs also sells Poltergeist, a different ESP32-C5 board with OLED, microSD, IR and GhostESP-oriented support that can operate with a Flipper or from USB-C; its current product page does not describe integrated GPS. Keep these as separate entities.

M5Shark

Current M5Shark documentation describes the R150 as an ESP32-C5 standalone wireless platform with dual-band Wi-Fi survey, WiGLE-format wardrive logging, BLE rows, GPS integration, SD-backed files and a web control interface. Older wording that said wardriving or GPS behavior was “not listed” is no longer current.

Double Barrel 5G (ESP32-C5 version)

Honey Honey's current manual describes a dual-Marauder architecture: a standalone ESP32 side with touch display, battery, GPS and microSD, plus an ESP32-C5 Marauder controlled by Flipper Zero for dual-band Wi-Fi. GPS can be accessed by both paths, but the Flipper-side UART allocation must be configured carefully because the ESP32 and NMEA GPS paths can contend for the same pins. This is materially different from a single-C5 integrated wardriver.

FlipperProBoard Pro+ C5

The current Pro+ C5 listing documents ESP32-C5 dual-band Wi-Fi, integrated GPS, Marauder preloaded and wardriving use. The listing does not state an onboard microSD slot, so storage should be described as unspecified rather than assuming either presence or absence.

Seeed XIAO ESP32-C5

The Seeed XIAO ESP32-C5 ($6.99) is a bare dev board — no GPS, no SD, no enclosure, no Flipper mount. It's the cheapest way to get real C5 silicon, but you're wiring your own GPS and SD, sourcing your own enclosure, and flashing Marauder (or a community DIY project like Piglet, which has documented working wardriver builds on this chip) yourself. Some users hit an unrelated ESPHome flashing bug (#14045) during setup, so budget time for troubleshooting on top of the parts and wiring.

An honest 2026 note: The "deauth doesn't work" and "GPS not found" problems that show up on ESP32-C5 hardware are documented Marauder firmware bugs — GitHub issues #1216 (C5 DevKit deauth not working, firmware 1.11.1) and #1268 (C5 "Scanning does not start," GPS baudrate not detected, firmware 1.12.1) — not a defect unique to one vendor's board. Most boards in this comparison, including the Scout Lite, run Marauder, so all of them can hit the same firmware-layer bugs at some point; a Flipper forum staffer has also pointed out that a "dead" deauth can be a false read if you're only checking whether a client stays connected instead of using a monitor-mode device to confirm the attack actually fired. Separately, Marauder's own FAQ caps SD cards at 32 GB and FAT32, and older reports (#227, #95) show SD mount failures aren't new to C5. What actually differs board to board is the hardware: whether GPS is hardwired or something you wire yourself, and whether the unit ships flashed and ready or needs you to flash it.

FAQ

How do current ESP32-C5 wardriving platforms differ?
They differ mainly in integration model. Scout Lite is Flipper-first with onboard GNSS and microSD; JCMK C5 Wardriver is standalone; JCMK Marauder C5 Adapter is a Flipper adapter that takes a C5 DevKit; Apex 5 is a multi-radio Flipper board with revision-dependent WarDrive support; Biscuit is phone-first. Compare GPS source, storage, control interface and revision rather than assuming every C5 board has the same workflow.
Does the Apex 5 support WarDrive?
Revision matters. Honey Honey's current documentation states that V1/Batch 1 does not support Marauder WarDrive. V2/Batch 2 revises the GPIO mapping so ESP32-C5 and GPS can operate simultaneously and the WarDrive workflow can function correctly.
Why should price claims be treated cautiously?
These products are sold through different channels and limited batches, so price and stock change frequently. Long-lived comparisons should focus on architecture and current revision; check the vendor listing for live price and availability.
Do I need to solder or flash firmware myself?
Depends on the board. The Scout Lite, Apex 5, Rabbit-Labs, M5Shark, Double Barrel and FlipperProBoard all ship as assembled boards with claimed preloaded firmware — no soldering required, though only some have independently verified WarDrive/5 GHz behavior. The Seeed XIAO ESP32-C5 is a bare $6.99 dev board with no GPS, no SD, and no case — you wire your own GPS/SD and flash Marauder or a community project like Piglet yourself.
