GPS Module for Flipper Zero
A small GPS add-on built on the Quectel L86-M33 that clips onto the Flipper GPIO header and works with the free GPS NMEA app right away. A built-in supercapacitor remembers your last fix, so most power-ups lock on in seconds instead of making you wait. It is receive-only — it listens to satellites and never transmits.

Your Flipper Zero has no GPS of its own. This module adds one: a built-in antenna picks up satellites, the L86-M33 works out your position, and it sends that to the Flipper over the GPIO pins. The GPS NMEA app turns it into a live location on screen. Nothing runs on a laptop — the Flipper is the host.

The module works with GPS, GLONASS, Galileo and QZSS, plus SBAS correction (WAAS, EGNOS, MSAS, GAGAN). In plain terms: it can “see” more satellites than a GPS-only receiver, which usually means a faster first fix and steadier positioning when you’re outdoors or surrounded by buildings.

Most basic GPS boards start from scratch every session, so you stand around waiting for that first fix. This board adds a supercapacitor that keeps your last position and satellite data alive for a while after you unplug — so the next power-up usually locks on in just a few seconds. And there’s no coin-cell battery to replace or leak; it charges itself whenever the board is powered.

Built-in antenna. Optional upgrade.
The built-in antenna handles everyday use — just take it outside and you’re good. For harder spots like metal enclosures or a car dashboard, the board has a place to add an external antenna for stronger reception. The connector isn’t installed at the factory: you solder on a standard SMA female connector (basic soldering), then plug in an active antenna. The board powers the antenna for you — no extra adapter needed.

Three steps from box to first fix.
- Dock the board. Seat the module on your Flipper Zero GPIO header so it uses the standard pins
13/14, plus 3.3 V and GND. - Get the app. Install the free GPS NMEA app from the Flipper app catalog, or turn on the built-in GPS feature on Momentum firmware.
- Go outside. Open the app under open sky, away from windows and metal. The first fix can take a little while; after that, restarts are quick.

What it can’t do, stated clearly.
- The first fix takes a moment. A first-ever start with no saved data needs a clear sky and can take ~15 s or more to lock — normal for any GPS, not a fault.
- It’s not for indoors. GPS signals are weak inside buildings; use it outdoors or by a window with open sky.
- The fast-restart memory isn’t forever. The supercapacitor holds for hours, not days; after long storage it does a normal (still quick) cold start again.
- The external antenna needs soldering. The SMA connector isn’t installed, and you supply the active antenna — it’s an optional upgrade for the harder spots.
- Receive-only. It listens to satellites and never transmits; it cannot transmit, alter, or interfere with signals.

Q.03My first fix takes a couple of minutes — is it broken?
No. The very first start with no saved data can take a little while under open sky, which is normal for any GPS. After that, the supercapacitor keeps your data alive between sessions, so later power-ups lock on much faster. Give it a clear view of the sky for that first fix, away from windows and metal.
Q.04Do I need an external antenna?
No. The built-in antenna handles normal handheld use. The external-antenna option is only for harsh spots like metal cases or vehicle dashboards. It ships without the connector installed, so it’s for users comfortable doing a bit of soldering.
Q.05How long does the fast-restart backup last?
A few hours per charge — enough to cover a typical unplug and replug, so the next start is quick. It is not a permanent battery; after a long time unused it does a normal cold start again. The upside is zero maintenance — nothing to swap or leak.
